Library Rules

General rules and code of conduct for the library

The Keller Public Library is a public building available for use by everyone.  Visitors are expected to behave in a manner that does not disturb other library patrons, disrupt the operation of the library, or endanger library material and equipment.

The Library’s Conduct Policies are designed to promote the safety and security of the Library’s patrons and collections, and to ensure that the library remains conducive to reading and study.  In order to maintain an appropriate environment for these purposes, the Board of Trustees and the Director of the Keller Public Library asks those using the library to comply with the following rules:

  • The library is a violence-free facility.  Loud, abusive, aggressive, threatening or obscene language or behavior are prohibited.  Library staff will report to the appropriate authority patron behavior which disrupts or interferes with the normal operation of the library or which endangers or threatens another person.
  • Tobacco products, alcohol and weapons (concealed or otherwise) are prohibited in the library building.
  • Loitering in the library building or on its grounds is prohibited.
  • Soliciting in the library building or on its grounds is prohibited.
  • The library is a cell-phone free facility. Calls may be taken outside or in the south foyer.
  • Shirt and shoes must be worn in the library.
  • Anyone exhibiting poor personal hygiene, which is reasonably offensive to others, will be asked to leave the building.
  • Food and beverages are prohibited, except in designated areas of the Community Room.
  • No one may lie on furniture, put feet on furniture, or sleep anywhere in the library.
  • No adult may leave children unattended anywhere in the library.  Patrons with children accompanying them in the library building and on its grounds are responsible for the supervision of those children.
  • The library staff assumes no responsibility for unattended children at closing time.  The staff will not stay with unattended children or offer transportation.  If an unattended child is in the library at closing time, the police will be notified and asked to pick up the child.
  • Library personnel are authorized to call the police should it become necessary to enforce any of these rules.
  • The Library Board has the right to exclude from use of the library any person who exhibits a pattern of willful violation of the policies prescribed by the board.
